Some models bring something to a photograph that is difficult to put into words. I photographed Lia Pironi in Venice in May, and both her natural beauty and her expressiveness made a lasting impression on me.

I am delighted to welcome her for a full day of photography in my studio with a small group of just four participants.

Our focus will be on creating several strong, varied series of images, with beautiful light and plenty of time for each photographer to work with Lia. She will bring a wide selection of clothes and accessories, giving us plenty of possibilities for exploring different looks, moods, and stories.

Create images that belong together

A striking individual photograph certainly can catch someone’s attention. A well-considered series gives them a fuller picture of the model, and of what you can do.

We will explore how to build series that work together in an editorial or portfolio, combining variety with a consistent visual direction.

How can a change of framing, gesture, styling, or distance move a series forward? Which images complement one another, and what makes a sequence feel complete?

This is a useful skill when approaching magazines or attracting private commissions. Editors and potential clients want to see that you can develop an idea and sustain the quality across a collection of images, without it getting repetitive.

Bring your inspiration

You are welcome to bring a few photographs with lighting you would love to understand. We can look at them together, work out how the light may have been created, and, where our setup allows, recreate it as a starting point for something of our own.

With only four photographers, there is both time and space to develop an idea and explore it in depth. Lia’s expressive range and the clothes and accessories she brings (whether we use them or not) will give each of us plenty to work with.

Throughout the day, I will help you get the most out of each set: refining the light, exploring angles and composition, and finding the variety that makes a series work.
We will also look at how to communicate your ideas and work with the model’s strengths to get the best from each situation.

And if you reach that familiar “I don’t know what else to do” moment, I will share practical ways to find a new direction and get the ideas moving again.

After the workshop, I will edit at least one example image while recording everything I do, and share both the video and the finished Image(s) with you, giving you a practical reference for how editing can bring out the best in the photographs we create.

Good photographs, good company

We will spend the day together in a relaxed atmosphere, exchanging ideas and enjoying the process of making stunning pictures. You are welcome to come with specific images in mind or an appetite to explore.
